We all have a need for love and belonging and it’s our relationships with partners, friends and family that make life worth living and contribute to our happiness and wellbeing.

Effective communication and active listening are key to healthy relationships. Behaviour and body language can tell us so much more than just words alone.

Understanding communication styles can bring people together to resolve conflicts.

There are 5 basic communication styles:

  1. Aggressive (points finger)
  2. Passive (yields to others)
  3. Passive-aggressive (manipulative)
  4. Computer (super-rational)
  5. Assertive (balanced)

It’s important to remember we are only ever responding to other people. They do not have power over us. We can choose the level to which we are influenced by them.
